You’ve heard of the Scout Oath, right? The list of values that Scouts aim to live by: trustworthy, loyal, helpful… all that good stuff? Well, we were reading through it the other day (as one does), and couldn’t help but notice something...
Dogs? They’re basically Scouts.
These values actually line up pretty perfectly with the way dogs move through the world - and with how we approach things here at Scout’s Honour. So let’s take a look:
TRUSTWORTHY
Dogs don’t lie. They don’t bail on plans. They don’t ghost you. If a dog says they love you (with their tail, eyes, entire wiggling body)… they mean it.
LOYAL
Need we even explain this one? Dogs basically invented loyalty. They’ll stick by your side through heartbreak, hangovers, bad dates, and boring Zoom calls.
HELPFUL
Whether it’s fetching a stick, comforting you on a tough day, or alerting you to that one suspicious leaf in the backyard - dogs love to help. No reward needed (but treats welcome).
FRIENDLY
Dogs don’t just try to be friendly - it’s wired into them. Whether it’s a tail-wagging frenzy, full-body wiggles, or an enthusiastic face lick, their friendliness is rarely subtle. And always genuine.
COURTEOUS
Okay, 'good manners' might be a stretch - but there’s something deeply polite about a dog’s gentle nose nudge or patient tail wag. They’re trying.
KIND
There’s a reason therapy dogs exist. Dogs are endlessly kind. They don't judge, and they forgive quickly.
OBEDIENT
Let’s be honest - this one depends on the dog. But most of them want to please - and with the right training (and snacks), they’re more than happy to follow the rules.
CHEERFUL
Dogs are little joy machines. They live for the now. Honestly, we should all take notes.
THRIFTY
Okay, this one’s a stretch. But hear us out: have you seen how excited a dog gets over an empty cardboard box? Zero waste. Maximum joy.
BRAVE
Whether it’s defending the house from the delivery driver or smelling something new at the park, dogs are brave in all the best ways.
CLEAN
Sometimes questionable. But they're definitely committed to keeping the kitchen floor crumb free.
REVERENT
Watch how a dog looks at their human. That’s love. That’s loyalty. That’s the quiet kind of respect you don’t have to teach.
So, yeah. Dogs are basically Scouts.
And Scout’s Honour? We’re built around that same spirit: loyalty, kindness, joy, and always showing up with heart.
Whether you’re honouring your own furry scout or just love dogs like we do - we’re glad you’re here!
