Meet Winston - Our Scout Of The Month

Winston is living proof that adventure (and a little mischief) comes in a very fluffy package.
Whether he's ferry hopping to visit family, digging up beaches, or enforcing the strictest stair tax in Fife, this cockapoo knows how to make every day an epic quest.
Let’s take a peek into the wild, wonderful world of Winston.

The adventures you’re about to read are told by Winston's mum, Hannah. Who better to spill all his secrets, quirks, and legendary tales?

Winston is a 4-year-old cockapoo from Fife, Scotland and will be turning 5 in September.

Winston has a long-distance girlfriend (my sister’s cavapoo) called Winnie who lives in Aberdeen. Although they live 2.5 hours away from each other, when they do get together, it’s pure chaos!

Winston is an adventure dog for sure and has already done so much travelling around Scotland. He’s even been on the ferry for multiple adventures to the Isle of Lewis, visiting his great-grandparents, who love sneaking him treats and watching him run around their Stornoway croft.

Winston loves exploring new places, but he also loves cuddles, especially with me and his dad in the morning.

Top three Badges
  1. Belly Rub Club - The VIP of all badges! Who doesn’t love belly rubs? No fancy credentials needed, just a belly and a willingness to roll over. It’s like being part of an exclusive club where the secret handshake is a well-timed paw on the face and a big, grateful sigh.

  2. Woofy Wilderness Explorer - The badge that turns a regular walk into an epic quest! And because no mountain, no matter how tall or scary, can stop Winston. He’s got paws of steel and a nose for adventure.

  3. Trees are for pees - Because nothing says “I’m a serious scout” like marking your territory with the finesse of a little, furry park ranger. Plus, it’s a badge that proves that even the smallest adventurers can leave their mark… literally.

While a seasoned explorer, Winston earned his Woofy Wilderness Explorer badge when he climbed his first Munro, Ben Chonzie. He did so well navigating tricky terrain with his little legs! Every outdoor adventure with Winston is special, but climbing his first Munro is certainly a milestone that is worth celebrating.

A typical day in the life of Winston starts bright and early at 6:30am when he performs his expert “wake-up call” - otherwise known as jumping on the bed and walking on mummy’s head. After having his breakfast, he quickly returns to his throne (a.k.a the bed) for some more snoozing and cuddles.

Come lunchtime, Winston transforms into some sort of Baywatch star as he marches to Burntisland beach, ball in mouth, ready to turn the sand into his playground! His speciality? Digging holes! So dedicated to this task is he that, quite often, we have to join in the digging to retrieve whatever he has buried.

After his sandy antics at Burntisland beach, Winston heads home to supervise in the garden. He thinks he is some sort of dedicated garden critic as he places himself at the back door and constantly stares. I can just imagine him saying, “That flower needs more digging”.

At 5 pm on the dot, it’s evening walkies! (followed by tea time, of course).

As the day winds down, Winston settles in for a well-earned nap, dreaming of his next grand adventure - or just wondering if the back garden might be a beach in disguise.

If Winston could plan his perfect day, it would probably look something like this:

A royal wake-up call (cause he thinks he's a prince), preferably with me bringing his breakfast directly to his bed. Winston would then enjoy a luxurious post-meal nap and massage, dreaming of endless beaches and ball throwing. Then a visit to his favourite park, where he can run like the wind, chase after his ball, smell new smells, and bonus points if he can find a new friend to play with. Food, food and more food and finally, Winston would drift off into dreams of climbing big hills, ball throws, endless beaches and knowing tomorrow promises more adventures.

Every time someone comes up the stairs in our house, they must pay the stair tax. Winston will sit on top of the stairs and will not move unless he is paid (given a treat). It’s a job he takes very seriously!

A custom badge I would make would be the “Grass Eater” badge. Apparently he is half dog, half cow and enjoys a cheeky munch of mummy’s lawn!
