Tell us about your dog! What’s their name, breed, age, and one fun fact about them?
Otis is an 18 month old Golden Retriever. Fun fact about Otis: he’s never chewed or destroyed anything in the house, not even as a puppy! He’s so gentle with his toys that he still has the same ones his breeder gave him when we first picked him up. They’re a little worn, but still going strong!
What’s their personality like? Are they playful, mischievous, adventurous, or a total cuddle bug?
Otis is very emotionally intelligent. He always seems to know exactly how we are feeling and responds in the sweetest ways. He’s definitely a total cuddle bug and loves being close. Whether we are happy or having a rough day, he’s always right there, ready to snuggle!
Which are your dog’s top three badges from Scout’s Honour, and why do you love them?
• Good Boy – because he’s literally an angel. He listens to all our commands and is so well-behaved, it’s like he came pre-programmed with good manners!
• Lover Not a Biter – because he genuinely loves everyone he meets and wants to be their best friend. He’s the ultimate social butterfly in a fur coat.
• Doggy Paddle Pro – because he lives for swimming. If it were up to him, he’d probably move into a lake and never look back!
Is there a specific moment or story where your dog really earned one of their badges?
Oh, Otis 100% earned his Nature Enthusiast badge. He treats every walk like an all-you-can-eat salad bar. Sticks, leaves, freshly sprouted plant buds - you name it, he tries to eat it.
Which badge do you think personifies your dog the best? Why?
The Best Buddy badge fits Otis perfectly. He truly is our best friend. He never causes any trouble, loves unconditionally, and is always up for an adventure. Whether we’re relaxing at home or out exploring, he’s right there by our side, just happy to be with us.
What does a typical day look like for your dog?
On weekdays, Otis has a pretty solid routine. He patiently waits for his pawrents to wake up, then it’s out for a morning walk, followed by breakfast and a full day of serious napping. In the evening, he gets another walk to wrap up the day. But weekends are a different story! We always try to go on adventures, whether it’s exploring new places, taking long walks, or just enjoying the outdoors together. He absolutely loves it!
If your dog could plan the perfect day, what would it include? (Maybe treats, belly rubs, or a favourite park visit?)
If Otis could plan the perfect day, it would absolutely be a trip to the beach! He’d spend the whole day chasing his favourite floating toy in the waves, swimming like a champ, and then rolling around in the sand like it’s his personal spa treatment. Throw in some treats and belly rubs between splash sessions, and he’d be in heaven!
Do they have any funny routines, habits, or “must-haves” throughout the day?
Otis has this funny habit where he has to show off his favourite toys to any visitors - like a proud little host giving a house tour. And when he gets really excited, he absolutely must have a soft toy in his mouth. It’s like his way of channelling all that happy energy into one squishy, slobbery bundle!
If you could create a custom badge just for your dog, what would it say?
If Otis had his own custom badge, it would probably say 'Go Fetch Adventure.' He’s always up for an adventure. Whether it’s a big day trip or just a new walking route in the neighbourhood. His tail starts wagging the second he senses we’re about to go somewhere. Every outing is the best day ever in his book!
