Embroidered patches come in all shapes and sizes, and the same goes for the type of application they need. Sew-on, iron-on, velcro, stick on - you get the idea.
The choice of what backing to choose for our merit badges was simple. We wanted application to be easy for our customers and also wanted something that would be durable for a dogs crazy antics. Iron-on was the perfect solution.
Our iron-on patches can quite literally be applied in seconds. Perfect for those of us (present company included) with limited sewing skills.
Some people have been sceptical. Can you really permanently attach a patch using only an iron?! But let me tell you, the Scout's Honour merit badge is in it for the long haul.
The adhesive backing we use on our patches creates a strong bond between the fabric and patch. A bond that can only be broken by brute force.
This means your patch will stay in place, unaffected by everyday use, assuming the patch has been properly applied to an appropriate fabric. You can read more about how to apply your merit badge here, and we've made a handy list of appropriate fabrics for iron-on patches here.
Will my merit badge come off in the wash?
We get it. Dogs get dirty. And stinky. You can rest assured our high-quality iron-on patches are designed to withstand all the washing, as long as you follow these steps:
- Wait Before Washing: Wait at least 24 hours after applying the patch before washing the garment.
- Gentle Cycle: Use a gentle washing cycle to protect the patch and the fabric.
- Avoid Dry Cleaning: Dry cleaning may damage the patch's adhesive, so it's best to avoid it.
With proper application and care, these patches can stay on securely and endure regular washing.
What do I do if my patch comes loose?
Yes, we know we just said this should never happen, but sometimes *shit* happens. We always recommend stitching down the corners if you see any signs of your patch coming loose.
